Hello Writers! Writing conclusions isn't fun, right? You've already written 3,000+ words. And the last thing you want to do is re-state what you've already said. To this, I say: Your conclusion doesn't have to repeat everything in your article. Instead, a good conclusion should be an extension of the article that synthesizes everything. Ask yourself: Is your conclusion boring and does it just say the same thing you said in the intro? -OR- Does your conclusion bring that extra oomph to the article and drive the point home in an interesting way? Give it a whirl. Let me know how it goes. Thank you for reading,

I graduated and worked full time as an architect and I was also contributing to an architectural journal. That’s when a B2B marketing agency picked up a piece I’d written and asked me if I’d write for them. That was my first client. Within 2 months, I was writing for all 4 of their B2B clients and I realized I had a knack for this. Since I’d wanted to be a writer since I was 5 years old, I took this as a sign and started looking for clients of my own. Six months later I had quit my full-time job and had 4 clients of my own! 2. What advice do you have for freelancers to help them land clients? Build relationships and not just launch pads for sales pitches. Every single time I’ve needed within the past year I’ve been connected to clients through other freelancers, content managers, and heads of content that I built relationships with. And be as invested in other people’s success as you are in your own. Reach out with opportunities, resources, and referrals — or even a note of appreciation. Sharpen Your Writing Skills

Has landing new freelance clients been rough for you this year? You’re not alone. New client work has slowed for me this year, too, but one thing that is still working is building relationships. All of my projects this year have come from people I’ve connected with on LinkedIn through posts, comments, and DMs. Trust is harder to earn now, and it takes more effort than “Easy Apply” to land work. This week’s Content Connect sponsor, Taplio.com, is the tool I use to keep that...

Hello Reader! It doesn’t matter how good a writer/strategist/editor/marketer you are, if the client can’t count on you, they’re gonna look for someone else. Clients remember the person who delivers on time, communicates clearly, and makes their life easier, not the one who turns in genius-level work three days late or disappears mid-project. I get it. Life gets busy. Freelancers are a one-man band with multiple clients. It’s freakin' hard to juggle it all. Afterall: What if you get sick? What...
